June 21 kicked off the first day of Summer and by that, the National Geographic has a nice article about the Summer Solstice and this day in history. It’s only been 9 days since the beginning of Summer and I have to say I celebrated the longest day of the year in style. Spent most of the day rocking at WebMedley under new management, played golf with Bypass Rental owner David Culton, and topped the night off with some Mexican food and hanging with my dogs.

June brought several events to the calendar. Father’s day, my brother had his colon removed to rid him of colitis, the NBA Draft picked four University of Kentucky and John Calipari players Brandon Knight, Enes Kanter, Josh Harrellson, and DeAndre Liggins to continue their basketball careers, I took a trip through the flat lands of Missouri that were flooded in May and surprisingly a great portion has been planted, and we have finally finished our home improvement project.

Tomorrow marks the first day of the third quarter and the beginning of my birthday month. I’ll be celebrating the last year of my 20′s with an initial trip to Tybee Island for a little rest and relaxation! Half a year has come and gone by and I am looking forward to finishing up 2011 with as great a second half as the first.

Five days into May and we have already seen 74 year old records broken and a rebel eliminated at the hand of America’s finest. The greatest thing about these events are that technology has evolved to make you feel like you are right there at any second. From my computer over 200 miles away I was able to watch as KFVS 12 news live streamed the 130,000 acres of farmland being flooded by the breaching of a levee at Bird’s Point. Twitter and Facebook were the first places I found out that Navy Seals had killed Osama Bin Laden after almost 10 years of hiding.

Where do you think the next wave of technology will be evolved to increase the speed of which breaking news is presented to the consumer? Will there be chips automatically implanted in children similar to our pets to track location? I watched a video this morning concerning the new age assistance of farming. Takes the user directly into being a part of the whole process. Now this does cost, but perhaps it would give the user a bit more satisfaction than playing Farmville. Here is a direct look at what I am talking about.

Let me know what you think and I’ll provide you with a little more input. Oh yeah, started my exercise plan and I’ve got more of an eat/drink less thing going on right now…

Well I started my workout again, but didn’t do anything just told myself I’ll get started with my plan tomorrow or Monday. Isn’t that how it always works? First you have the idea that you are going to get on track with getting in shape and being able to at least run a mile without stopping to walk because you are out of breath. You even pack your bag with the clothes you plan to wear at the gym and take them to the office with you so you don’t have to stop by the house because if you do, you know you are going to get comfortable and open a beer or have a glass of wine to swallow the day. You might even get halfway through the day with the idea that you are still going to the gym. Then all hell breaks loose…

Something clicks in your brain that causes you to blow off the gym, drink a half-case of Bud Light (because light beer is better on your body than the full flavor Budweiser), and eat 24 wings and some pizza. I’ve been doing this for a little over two years now and the funny thing about it is that it’s not the working out part that is the hard part. The hard part is getting to the gym! Once you are there, you can simply walk, get on the elliptical, heck, even shoot some hoop!

Today is the day I push myself to go. Set a schedule that is convenient for work and family and stick to it. With that said, I guess I will have an update for you next week…

Nobody likes to, but everybody needs to in some form or another. Diets are probably the worst thing I have ever had to deal with after I started drinking beer. When I was in high school it was no problem for me to go through the lunch line with a couple of pizzas, a cheeseburger, and two orders of fries. If I ate like that now I would have to be rushed to the hospital. Now I’m not saying that I am a big person by any means, but the fact of the matter is I wouldn’t win the swimsuit competition.

It’s diet thirty, time to get the excess 15-20 pounds moved around somewhere other than my stomach and run a mile in under 7 minutes. If you think back, you can probably remember the diets you have had in the past, the figure you want to get back to you saw in a recent picture album you were thumbing through, so do it. I remember a diet I was on one time that I was eating so much chicken I could have sworn I was bwawkin, or however you spell the sound that a chicken makes. I ate so much broccoli, my pee changed color!

Diets are not about simply starving yourself to death, you can actually gain more weight by doing that. You have to eat the right amount of proteins, vegetables, fruits, and whatever you Google the “experts” say you should eat. You also have to add in a little bit of exercise, which leads me to my next point…
